Doris Mae “Dottie” Howey

Doris Mae (Dottie) Howey, 87, died on July 22, 2008. She was born in Glassboro, N.J. and moved to Cortez in 1959 with her loving husband, Harry S. Howey.

They owned and operated the Cortez Trailer Park and Fishing Center for 30 years. Family was always her first priority, but she still found time for painting and being a faithful friend to her neighbors. Together, she and Harry were dedicated to the preservation of the Historic Cortez Fishing Village.

Dot is survived by Harry, her husband of 65 years, daughters Kathie Harris, Daytona Beach, Fla.; Linda Johnston, Bradenton, son Harry M. Howey, Lavonia, Ga., eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren, and her brother William Simmerman, Bradenton.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 600 N. Beneva Rd, Sarasota, FL 34232, in Memory of Doris Howey. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel in Bradenton is handling arrangements.
