James F. "Jim" Guthrie, 64, of Lawrence, Kan., formerly of Sarasota, died
Oct. 8, 2009.
A celebration of life will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Lawrence Funeral Chapel
in Lawrence.
He was born Feb. 24, 1945, the son of Irvin Jagar and Ida May Newton
Guthrie. He was a graduate of Sarasota High School, and received an AA in
civil engineering and manufacturing and engineering. He also received his
bachelor’s degree from the University of South Florida.
He worked as a quality supply engineer for Honeywell International for 19
years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, receiving two Purple Hearts for
his service in Vietnam from 1964 to 1969. He was a member of the University
of South Florida Alumni Association. He married Linda G. George in
Greensboro, N.C., on Oct. 4, 1969.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; a daughter, Merritt K. of Lawrence; and a
cousin, Sid Evans of Sarasota.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial contributions may be made
to the American Cancer Society and sent care of the funeral home. Online
